It All Starts With A Passion For Delicious, Local Food

Gardening is in our blood, going back generations; some of our happiest moments are planning, designing, and working in our flower and vegetable beds. Dolma Food is an extension of that love for the soil: planting seeds, watering, weeding, and patiently waiting as nature stuns us with her beauty, diversity, and bounty. In short, eating fresh, locally grown food has always been important to us, so when we bought the former La Bonne Nouvelle establishment on St. George Street in Moncton, NB, and opened Dolma Food in June 2010, we were excited to build a community to connect our local farmers and customers.

Beyond offering fresh produce and groceries, our vision was to have ready-to-go meals prepared in-house using locally grown ingredients. Like so many new businesses, we started small: one kitchen stove in the basement. Bit by bit, our production kitchen expanded as did the selection of meal choices our customers could enjoy.

Unexpectedly, in early January 2016, life threw us a curve ball. Six years after opening Dolma Food, a fire destroyed everything we had built. Our community immediately rallied behind us, sharing their support, love, and resounding desire for us to rebuild. What a humbling experience. It led us to reopening and welcoming them back to our new store in April 2017.

Dolma’s market features local produce as well as grocery, deli, and high-quality, clean-labelled international products. In addition, our current building has a fully functioning production kitchen that makes our Dolma Cuisine line of products. Dolma’s dedicated, hard-working kitchen team creates nutritious and delicious meals, sauces, soups, jams and jellies, pastries, and desserts. Our talented butcher shares his passion, stocking our fridges with beautiful cuts of local meat, sausages, bacon, charcuterie, etc.

Our market team tries to create a pleasant shopping experience, helping our customers find exactly what they need.

In closing, at Dolma Food we understand that communities with a strong agricultural sector, which follows sustainable growing best practices, is key to strengthening food security worldwide. New Brunswick and the Maritime provinces have prime agricultural land, and Dolma is proud to support and promote our local farmers.
